六水氯化镁，又称水镁石，化学式为MgCl2·6H2O，分子量为203.303。为白色柱状或针状结晶，味苦，外观为白色片状、颗粒状、粉末状，俗称卤片、卤粒、卤粉。纯品为无色单斜晶体，工业品常呈黄褐色，含有40-46%的氯化镁、氯化物等杂质，有苦味。易溶于水和乙醇，湿度大时易潮解。116-118℃热熔分解。
